Luxe Wine Room for a Custom Home on Lake Wylie

The Sara Lynn Brennan Interiors team recently had the pleasure of working on a unique and exciting project for a couple of California transplants who were building their dream home on the picturesque shores of Lake Wylie in Belmont. The clients, with an extensive wine collection from their vineyard-owning days in California, entrusted us to design the interiors of their three-story home, including an extraordinary wine cellar tucked away in the basement.

From the very beginning, our team was committed to understanding the clients’ vision and needs. The couple, having custom-built their house, desired a wine cellar that was not only functional but also made a bold statement. They wanted an intimate, climate-controlled space where they could unwind with friends or each other, enjoying a glass of wine without interruption.

Collaborating with Wine Cellars of the Carolinas, we designed and installed a climate-controlled, backlit cellar in the unfinished portion of the basement. The steel-framed glass doors not only ensured a climate-controlled environment but also showcased their impressive wine collection, turning it into a captivating work of art. The storage system accommodates an impressive 1,332 bottles, providing a home for their staggering collection.

In a strategic move to prevent the windowless space from feeling too enclosed, we incorporated three arched wall mirrors between the cellar and built-in shelves. This not only added a touch of elegance but also reflected the natural light from the adjacent walk-out basement, preventing the room from feeling cave-like. The neutral greige walls, paired with a gold wagon-wheel chandelier, created an inviting atmosphere while keeping the space warm and visually appealing.

To maximize functionality, we transformed a 10-by-10-foot space with a closet into a wine bar with built-in shelves for drinkware. This thoughtful addition not only enhanced the storage capacity but also provided a charming space for the homeowners to savor their wine collection.

Adding character to the room, we opted for custom-made swivel accent chairs upholstered in caramel-colored leather. A natural wood accent table with fluted details complemented the wood crates in the cellar, creating a cohesive design. A whimsical wine-themed painting, a sentimental piece from the homeowners’ California days, adorned the wall, adding a personal touch to the space.

This bespoke wine cellar project exemplifies our commitment at Sara Lynn Brennan Interiors to ask the right questions, understand our clients’ unique needs, and design interiors that are not only beautiful but also highly functional. The result is a wine room that goes beyond expectations, turning a small basement space into a grand and surprising haven for the clients’ remarkable wine collection.

We were also thrilled for the opportunity to see this project in print, featured in the latest Wine issue of Charlotte Magazine!
